On "Throwing the Jew Down the Well"

In the past week, we have been "alerted" to this youtube video by several people. However, we have been aware of it for quite some time. Please watch and read our commentary below:

The video is actually a piece from comedian, Sacha Baron Cohen, who is Jewish and from the UK. He is proud of being Jewish. He keeps Kosher and respects Shabbat to some degree. It's a couple years old. The JIDF actually appreciates his humor and believes he is:
  • showing some chutzpah
  • showing how "catchy" antisemitism is
  • having the last laugh on antisemites by showing how stupid they are
  • ultimately, he is exposing antisemitism and the joke is on the Jew haters
This is done often throughout his comedy. There was another piece where he goes to a ranch in Texas, and again, discovers how people really feel about Jews (as well as making statements against hunting):

Many people who unfamiliar with his work are offended by it, and then there are Jew haters who love it (not realizing that the joke is on them.) Again, we think he makes important points and we are actually entertained, yet alarmed by some of the things we discover through his comedy. There are statements here about how "safe" Jews actually are in America. Throw in a terrorist attack and a bad economy (which they can "blame the Jews") along with a catchy Jew hatin' song, and America won't be so beautiful of a place anymore for the Jewish People.

Here is the real Sacha Baron Cohen:
The JIDF not only applauds his comedy which exposes antisemitism, but we also appreciate his brother, Simon Baron Cohen for his contributions to the study of Autism. While we realize this brand of humor certainly isn't for everyone, we feel it takes all types, and do not underestimate the importance of humor in this world.
