David Horowitz Freedom Center/Jihad Watch a bit late to the party

The Jewish Internet Defense Force did what we could to rescue the largest pro-Israel group on Facebook from Hezbollah-supporting "hackers". We worked directly with the creator and other admins of the group to remove the "hackers" from the admin position. We restored the group when we could. We wrote many emails about the problems to senior people. We encouraged thousands of others to contact Facebook as well.

We disagree with David Horowitz and the Freedom Center's approach of labeling Facebook "pro-Jihad" and "anti-Israel." Just recently, Facebook removed over 100 antisemitic and jihadist Facebook groups upon our request (see here and here.)

The Freedom Center also claims that Facebook's action is "an assault on free speech and internet freedom." Our enemies argue the same thing when Facebook removes antisemitic or Jihadist content, which is exactly what they did in this case.

The folks behind this protest simply do not have all the facts. We tried to get the Freedom Center to contact us so we could get them up to speed, to no avail. The fact of the matter is, Facebook saw a pro-Jihadist group when it was reported, they did not see a pro-Israel group. They took the CORRECT action to remove it, as the promotion of terrorism is against Facebook's terms. Todd Snider's account was disabled because he was listed as the creator of a group which was, unfortunately, hijacked and changed by Hezbollah supporters. This confusion will be sorted out, and we are confident that Todd Snider's account will be reactivated by Facebook.

The correct course of action would have been if Facebook took our original complaints seriously and deactivated all the accounts of the "hackers" we sent to them, including:

  • Tamer Salman
  • ALi El Zein
  • Rowad Kwatt
  • Christian Maronite
  • Wissambou Mjahed
  • Bruce Adams
  • Mikel Williams
  • Kowatt Berre
  • Rami Fakhri
  • Nana Khoure (utica, NY)
  • Hajj Rodwan
  • Charbel Aboud
  • Joe Dagher
  • Michel Rayne
  • Samuel Goldstein (fake Goldstein w/out the JIDF photo)
  • David Appletree (Lebanon) (Fake Appletree) (formerly "Tamer Salman")
  • Anthony Wade
  • Nosor El Jabal
Next time it would be helpful if people making certain claims about Facebook being "anti-Israel" and "pro-Jihad" would contact those of us who are and have been on the front lines combating these issues and coordinating with Facebook insiders directly, so we can help provide all the facts, coordinate effort, and discuss the most proper course of action.
