JIDF Letter to other Organizations, Leaders, and Bloggers: Will You Unify With Us In a Major Campaign for Gilad Shalit?

Since writing this letter, we are proud to have obtained the blessing of the Shalit family, and the following organizations, individuals, and bloggers have joined us: The Gilad Shalit Army of Friends, Dr. Hagit Hadar and the Gilad Shalit Committee in America, Radical Commentary, David Saranga and the Israeli Consulate in New York, Chabad.org, Lubavitch.com, Z-Street, Jewlicious, WeJew.com, Schtik!, Tweet Your Prayers, and the International Civil Liberties Alliance

Dear Leaders and Activists,

I'm bcc'ing this to representatives of a handful of organizations, individuals who might know of other organizations which might wish to get involved, and bloggers, who might also wish to unite with us, as I'm a supporter of the work you do, and the organizations you represent (some of which, over the years, helped inspire me to create the JIDF).

This email will also be posted as a note on the JIDF fan page on Facebook, as there are many others who might wish to get involved, although I may not have their email addresses.

As you might be aware, the JIDF is planning a major online campaign for Gilad Shalit in the next month (please see our press release, Facebook group, and Facebook event). This is a single-issue campaign only to raise awareness and is not political whatsoever. Therefore, we would love to get as many organizations and influential leaders on board as possible for this initiative - as the more folks who get involved, the more effective we can be in accomplishing our goal, which is to expose this issue to millions of people who most likely do not know who Gilad Shalit is.

We are also working to get the blessing of the Shalit family for this campaign, as well as the cooperation of seasoned publicists and legitimate media outlets.

The goal is simple: On the Wednesday before Gilad Shalit's birthday (Friday, August 28th), we hope to have thousands of Twitter users sign on and tweet Gilad Shalit's name (using the #GiladShalit hashtag) as often as possible, so that he becomes a top ten 'Trending topic on the popular networking site.

I have always been inspired by your work and would love to be able to count on your support for this effort.

All that would be required from you is a short, simple message asking all your subscribers, members, and readers to do this simple online task, and if everyone does it all at once in a coordinated fashion, we can truly accomplish great things online.

Can we count on you to unify with us in this effort?

It would be an honor if you would join us. Please let me know, so we may add your organization to our press release, and so that you may be an integral part of this campaign to help raise awareness.

Thank you.

David Appletree
