Hey FACEBOOK! I see you, you see me! Why Can't We Be Friends?

Dear Facebook,

I figured I'd write you here, since you don't bother to send me anymore canned responses via email. I see you continue to visit the JIDF website, often:

I see you also keep close tabs on my friends.

Why don't you make this easier for all of us and just bring me back?  I could actually continue to be a great asset to your platform, as opposed to advocating strongly against it.  I see a lot of room for improvement.  I see security and design flaws.  This new thing you're doing - turning groups to pages?  Awful! (eg. One can barely even edit group descriptions and control the layout of them anymore!?!)

Don't you appreciate the fact that my organization is on the forefront of getting you to remove antisemitic and jihadist trends on your platform (and thus, helping you to enforce your own TOS)?  Don't you appreciate the fact that the JIDF is a case-in-point of a successful grassroots organization taking off thanks in large part to us fully utilizing all the tools Facebook has to offer -using them in highly innovative and effective ways?

There was a time, not so long ago, when Chris Kelly, Simon Axten, "Lysander", and others at Facebook understood my privacy and security concerns.  Now, that is all gone, and Facebook has decided to remove me, and all my content from the site (including important documentation and correspondence).  I no longer have any control over anything I created there!

So long as I stand deactivated, all I can do is continue to warn hundreds of thousands of people about the problems on Facebook and that if you did this to me, you can arbitrarily and selectively do this to anyone - and you have.

Thanks a lot Facebook.  Why can't we just be friends?

Bring me back.  I'll help you, you help me, and understand the needs of thousands of people like myself, who face legitimate privacy, safety, and security concerns, and we'll call it a day!

David Appletree
