Miami: Two stabbed near protest of Holocaust denier

(Miami Herald)While a Holocaust denier gave a talk within the Ritz-Carlton Monday evening, two people outside the hotel were stabbed.

One person had such serious stab wounds authorities flew the person to Delray Medical Center for treatment, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue spokesman Capt. Don DeLucia said Monday night.

The stabbing happened shortly after 9 p.m.

CBS 12 reported the speaker, David Irving, was inside the resort at 100 S. Ocean Blvd. earlier in the night and drew protesters.

Monday, The Palm Beach Post reported that Irving was expected to speak in the West Palm Beach area at 7, but the location of the talk was a closely guarded secret.

As Jose Lambiet reported:

Irving, a military historian by trade, reads from his books and meets followers in hastily rented hotel meeting rooms or restaurant back rooms. The establishments' owners are kept in the dark about his beliefs.

Those who object to Irving's message were on the lookout Monday.

"Each person is vetted by his local contacts," said a WPB activist who gave only his first name, Nick, to Lambiet. "We've called just about every hotel in the area and he hasn't reserved a meeting room. We were hoping to protest, but we can't find him."

This time Irving, who owns a home in Key West, is pushing "Banged Up," a book in which he writes about spending 400 days in solitary confinement in Austria for spewing his rhetoric in that country.
