#MyMitzvah Twitter Campaign to Remember Mumbai and Perform Mitzvot in Holtzbergs' Honor

From Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters:

Last year, the world watched in horror as a small, but organized group of terrorists hit Mumbai, India, with a series of coordinated attacks over the course of three frightening days. When the last bullet had been fired and the smoke finally cleared, the trail of blood and fire they left throughout Mumbai had claimed nearly 200 innocent lives, leaving scores of other maimed and wounded.

Among those so cruelly murdered were the Chabad-Lubavitch representatives Rabbi Gavriel Noach, his wife Rebbetzin Rivkah Holtzberg, and the four guests of the Chabad House, Bentzion Kruman, Rabbi Leibish Teitelbaum, Yoheved Orpaz, Norma Shvarzblat Rabinovich. As rumors, facts and doubts circulated during the crisis, the power of social media stood out as a tool of communication and empowerment in the face of fear, confusion and terror.

Now, with the passing of a year on the Jewish calendar, we would like to use this same medium to commemorate the yahrtzeit, or anniversary of the passing, of those who lost their lives.

The #MyMitzvah Campaign:

In an effort to spread light and goodness around the world, we request the public to pledge a good deed, their mitzvah, in honor of those who died. By Tweeting the #MyMitzvah hashtag on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 - 1 Kislev, 5770, and letting the world know what you've done, we can show the power of a united front for peace and goodness. Each good deed, however small in nature, becomes part of a tapestry of light and life - something far more powerful then any force of darkness.

Check back on this page on Wednesday, the day of the campaign, to see a live feed of all the #MyMitzvah deeds!

While you're welcome to tweet any good deed, here's a list of sample mitzvot:
  • Giving Charity
  • Performing A Random Act of Kindness
  • Donning Tefillin
  • Studying Torah
  • Honoring your Parents
  • Visiting the Sick
