LA: Jewish Student's Car Vandalized with Large Swastika at Calabasas High School

By no means was this deserved, but a 2009 BMW for a high school student?

(Daily News) A large swastika was carved Monday into the hood of a student's car at Calabasas High School, and authorities are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime, officials said.

Sharouna Babadjouni, whose son's 2009 BMW was vandalized, said there have been other anti-Semitic incidents at the school, but this is the first one that she reported to authorities.

"We didn't report those because they were in paint and could be easily removed, but this can't," said Babadjouni, whose family is Jewish. "This makes me sad, and it's hard to send (my) three kids to the high school when something like this happens.

"It's a good school. They just need to put a few kids in their place."

Sheriff's Lt. Scott Chew, a watch commander at the Los Hills Sheriff's Station, confirmed that deputies were investigating the incident.

Babadjouni, who has lived in Calabasas for three years, said she plans to ask school officials to install surveillance cameras in the parking lots. She also plans to ask city officials to establish a human relations commission.

A city spokesman referred calls to the Las Virgenes Unified School District. Officials there could not be reached for comment.
