CNN Fails to Label Islamic Massacre of Jews a Terrorist Attack

In an apparent stab at objectivity, CNN decided to put quotation marks around the words “terror attack” when reporting on Friday’s brutal massacre of an Israeli family by a Palestinian assailant.

The use of the quotations marks in the headline signaled CNN’s uncertainty about whether or not the slaughter of the Fogel family could be accurately described as terrorism.

Then, CNN went on to pretty much confirm that it does not consider the killing of Jewish settlers to be an act of terrorism. A passage from the article in question refers to the murder of Uri and Rachel Fogel and three of their young children as “what the Israeli army calls a ‘terrorist attack.’”

The Israeli Government Press Office responded with outrage, and sent a letter to CNN’s Jerusalem Bureau demanding an apology.

“Your remarks sound as if we are talking about an IDF ‘claim’ that this was ‘a terrorist attack’ and that this is not necessarily the case,” GPO official Oren Helman wrote. “If this is not a terrorist attack, then what is?”

Meanwhile, much of the international media paid very little attention to the attack at all.

By Sunday, virtually no major mainstream media outlet was reporting on the massacre of the Fogel family or the plight of the surviving three children, though some were very happy to headline Israel’s decision to build a measly 500 additional Jewish homes in the “West Bank” in response.

An Associated Press report that was regrettably used unedited by Fox News even tried to downplay the attack by noting that the Fogels lived in Itamar, which, according to the AP, “is home to some of Israel’s most radical settlers.”
